Who Am I?

Hey, thanks for dropping by!

My name is Anand Patel and I am a young professional trying to figure out where to go in life. Let me start from the beginning. I was born in Dagenham (London), England on January 29th, 1987. I was there for about 11 years, enjoying the unpredictable weather and not having a care in the world. I never noticed it back then but my parents were extremely hard working individuals that did whatever they could to provide a comfortable life for my brother and I. At the time, all I noticed was how my dad would say no whenever I asked if I could get something (as a kid you just want what others already have) and man did that piss me off. About 20 years later, I finally began to appreciate all those no’s. Either way, if I skip the rest of the sentimental stuff, it all comes down to my parents helping to shape the man I have now become.

So how did I end up doing Social Media Marketing? I went to the University of California, Irvine and got my degree in Electrical Engineering. I have always loved math and I could sit there for hours upon hours trying to solve problems, and this is why I chose Electrical Engineering. It was a terrible choice. Okay maybe not terrible, it did help enhance my analytical thinking and problem solving skills but I was not that interested in the material. During college I began getting into graphic design and I was having fun finally getting to use my creative side. That’s when I decided that engineering was not for me. After graduation I took on a part-time job doing business development and marketing and somewhat enjoyed it. This is when I was first introduced to online marketing and it just fit so perfectly with who I am. It allowed me to mix a little creativity with a bunch of analytical thinking.

I am now enjoying a career in social media marketing and am the VP of Social Media at Creative Intellects as well as the Social Media Marketing & Product Manager at Fanggle. Call me a geek but I love trying to figure out why companies should use social media and whether or not it is working. I love the creativity needed to develop successful campaigns, along with the design work that goes along with them, and get even more excited about all the analytics, metrics and numbers behind the scenes. Yes, I really am a nerd.

P.S. Just to make sure you know I also do have a cool side, I am really into sports and music. I am a huge fan of the San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres and Philadelphia 76ers and own and contribute to a sports blog, Pardon My Bias.

Finally, I have no idea where my life is going to take me but there is a saying that I like to use: I have no idea where I am going but I can guarantee you that I will get there.
